“Technology”, said the physicist Freeman Dyson, “is a good servant but a bad master”. At a time when technology is reshaping society at an ever faster rate, it is critical for Khalifa University - a major science and engineering research university - to examine the relationship between technology and the overall human experience. Technology and society interact across a broad spectrum of issues, including energy production, the environment, robotics, biotechnology, communications, urban planning and war. Whatever the issue, scientists and engineers need to engage in a dialogue with social scientists, policymakers, writers, artists, and the public. Khalifa University is committed to engage in these conversations, in a continuing process aimed at advancing the common interests of the nation and the global community.
